How to Join the Library

Membership is open to persons of any age, and is free to all residents of Goulburn Mulwaree, Upper Lachlan and Yass Valley Council areas. Potential members need to provide identification showing their current residential address.

The library requires persons under the age of 18 to have a guarantor. A guarantor is a parent or guardian over 18 who is prepared to take responsibility for items borrowed, which may become lost or damaged. The guarantor needs to provide identification showing their current residential address, and co-sign the application form for the person wishing to become a member.

To become a member please bring proof of your current address in the form of :-

One of the following:  

  • Current driver’s licence

  • Rates or water notice

  • Commonwealth or State Electoral card

  • DSS/Pension card

  • Parent or Guardian’s Library membership (for under 18s)

Or two of the following  

  • Electricity account

  • Gas account

  • Telephone account

  • Official rent receipt from Real Estate Agent

  • Bank Statement

  • Learner’s permit

  • Proof of age card

  • Letter from Employer

  • Letter from School/Educational Institution

Print the Registration Form (PDF file), complete the details and hand in at any branch library. Remember to bring your identification with you.

 

TEMPORARY BORROWERS

If you wish to become a member of Southern Tablelands Regional Library but are not a permanent resident in any of the Southern Tablelands Local Government Areas (Goulburn Mulwaree, Upper Lachlan, Yass Valley Councils) you may be eligible to become a TEMPORARY MEMBER.

 

Conditions of Temporary membership

If you are:

A temporary resident (i.e. up to 3 months only) within the Local Government Area and can provide proof of your temporary residence

Ineligible to become a Reciprocal Borrower (see below)

Able to provide two forms of proof of identification, eg. current Driver’s Licence, Health Care Card

Able to provide proof of your temporary residence within the STRL

 

Fees

A $25.00 refundable fee is required, for which a receipt will be given.

Cheques are accepted, however refunds will be paid out in the form of a cheque sent to your permanent address

Upon return of all library items, payment of any outstanding charges and presentation of your library membership card, the $25.00 fee will be refunded.

 

Limits for Temporary Borrowers

2 items per person may be borrowed at one time

Videos and CD-ROMs cannot be borrowed

Interlibrary loan service is not available.

 

RECIPROCAL BORROWERS

If you wish to become a member of Southern Tablelands Regional Library but are not a permanent resident in any of the Southern Tablelands Local Government Areas (Goulburn Mulwaree, Upper Lachlan, Yass Valley Councils), you may be eligible to become a RECIPROCAL MEMBER.

 

Reciprocal membership is available to those who are members of another NSW or ACT Library Service.

 

Conditions of Reciprocal membership

If you are:

A permanent resident in another NSW or ACT Local Government Area and a member of the Library Service within that area

Able to provide two forms of proof of identification, one of which must be the membership card from your home Library Service, e.g. current Driver’s Licence, Health Care Card

 

Upon presentation of your home library membership card, STRL branch staff will check this with your home library service.

 

As a RECIPROCAL MEMBER, you will have the same rights and privileges as other members that live within the Local Government Areas incorporating the Southern Tablelands Regional Library.
