Library Services

Collections available for loan:

Audio: The audio collection for Children, Young Adults and Adults encompasses both CD and tape formats and covers music of all genres as well as fiction and non-fiction books for people who like to listen as they work or drive or as an alternative to the printed book.

DVDs: DVDs are available for Children, Young Adults and Adults. Children's titles include classics like Peter Pan as well as many popular modern titles like The Wiggles. Young Adult and Adult titles cover a range of informational topics like travel and health but also includes popular classic TV series, classic movie titles and HSC support titles such as Shakespeare's plays.

Fiction: Fiction is available to suit a variety of reading abilities in our Junior (children's), Young Adult and Adult collections. Adult fiction is in a variety of genre including romance, mysteries, crime, westerns and family sagas.

Graphic Novels: A Graphic Novel is a book-length comic style story. Graphic novels can be non-fiction or fiction and fall into genres, such as fantasy, science fiction, and history, as well as superhero and the Japanese Manga style. Graphic novels form part of our Young Adult Collection but some titles can be enjoyed by all ages.

Large print: This collection has both fiction and non-fiction books published using a larger than normal font for those with impaired vision or for those looking for an easier reading format.

Literacy Collection: Literacy for Life @ Your Library. This collection has been developed as part of a self-help program to assist adults in improving their skills in basic reading, writing and mathematics. The Literacy collection consists of modern and interesting books and audio material often matched so that even non-readers can follow the written text while they listen to the narrated story. A large range of novels and graphic novels have been selected that have compelling stories, real life experiences and socially relevant contexts for young adult and adult readers alike.

Magazines: Each branch carries a range of popular magazines covering topics like homes and gardens, health, antiques, current affairs and the environment. Magazines are available for Children, Young Adult and Adult readers.

Non-fiction: Non-Fiction covers a wide range of subjects and reading levels suitable for both study and reading for pleasure. The non-fiction collection encompasses a number of formats including CD-Rom. Biographies are found in the Non-fiction collection.

Parenting Collection: The Parenting Collection consists of material in a variety of formats useful to parents of children from birth to adolescence.

Reference Collections: All reference material is for use in the Library only. The central reference collection is located at Goulburn Library, and operates as a regional resource. The reference collections at each branch are enhanced by the provision of access to electronic information through the library network and by providing public access Internet terminals in all branch libraries.

Local History & Genealogy: The history of the towns and villages of the region can be found in a wide range of publications. Research into your family history can also be conducted at many of our branches.

Newspapers: Each branch carries a range of local and national Newspapers for use in the library.

Online databases: STRL subscribes to a number of Online databases. Some can only be accessed from within the Library, while others can be accessed from home. the databases cover a range of materials from encyclopaedia to information on health, science and current affairs.

Disability Resources: The library has a collection of large print books and alternative formats that are available for loan and we can obtain additional resources through the NSW State Library. Please contact your local branch library to place your request.

Foreign Language Materials: Foreign Language materials can be obtained free of charge, via the State Library, for people for whom English is a second language. Please contact your local branch library to place your request.

Internet: Free Internet services are available in all branch libraries. Bookings need to made for this service

Inter-Library Loans Service: Items not held by STRL, can often be obtained using the Inter-Library Loans service. If charges are applied by the lending library for supply of the request, they will be passed on to the requestor. These charges need to be paid before collection of the item. Inter-library loan requests can be lodged via the National Library's LibrariesAustralia site.

STAR Pre-School Boxes: As the result of a successful grant from the Mulwaree Trust, STRL is able to offer an outreach program to non-profit pre-schools and playgroups in rural villages and towns in Goulburn Mulwaree and Upper Lachlan Council areas.
